VUE, the UK’s largest operator of modern multiplex cinemas, has recently updated its point-of-sale technology at its 50+ multi-screen cinema
circuit nationwide. The company, which has grown through the acquisitions of various cinema chains including Warner Village Cinemas, found itself with a number of outdated systems. The need for a single integrated solution was therefore a major factor in upgrading the existing systems. Around 700 point-of-sale terminals and 150 self-service kiosks have been installed with VCSTIMELESS Vista software, an integrated retail and hospitality system developed specifically for cinemas. Furthermore, for the self-service kiosks UKbased distributor DED Limited has supplied the TSP700II thermal receipt printer from leading international POS printer manufacturer Star Micronics. A high speed, multi- functional printer the
TSP700II is capable of printing at 180mm/second. With its easy load ‘Drop-In & Print’ feature and providing the option for colour output as well as the ability to print receipts or tickets using paper stock up to 0.15mm/150gsm, the TSP700II is both versatile and featurerich.
A key advantage of this printer is its unique AutoLogoTM feature that enables the instant creation of effective marketing coupons and vouchers specific to user-defined purchases. Using WindowsTM graphics, AutoLogo is easy to use and enables promotions such as special offers, seasonal sales initiatives or stock related projects to be initiated and stopped instantly, without the need for expensive software changes. As Mr Kerry Lee, Sales Director, VCSTIMELESS, states, “Given its reputation for high quality performance and reliability, the TSP700II from Star Micronics was an obvious choice for Vue.” Roland Jones, IT Director, Vue Cinemas, adds, “With large numbers of customers using the kiosks, we needed a printer that could provide a high speed ticketing service. The Star TSP700II has proved to be the ideal solution and precisely meets our requirements not only today but also into the future.”
